Jamestown Fort

All of the original fort was buried. During the Civil War conference soldiers moved dirt around to make mounds for their defensive purposes to defend the mouth of the James River. Little did they know they did this on the settlement site of Jamestowne! Our tour guide said that many important artifacts have been uncovered from these mounds, but it isn't as helpful because they don't know where these objects were originally left by Jamestowne settlers.
