Milliner and Mantua-maker

These women are dress makers (mantua-maker) and dress decorators (milliner's).
They can make 40 stitches a minute.
Apprentices started at 11 and worked twelve hours a day six days a week.
The older woman has been working in this shop for 35 years! Wow! The women make their own costumes/clothing and accessories for other people in Colonial Williamsburg.
One wonderful visiting family had daughters dressed up at Felicity and colonial children. It has become a tradition that when the daughter turns 8 she wears the Felicity dress and they travel to Colonial Willisburg, from California! Way cool.
