Joinery

We started our Tuesday morning at The Joinery. Mr. Prior engaged in a discussion with a lively apprentice joiner. He had many great points to share with us about his trade and fun quotes.

"The depth of your cornices is directly related to the depth of your pockets."

"The carpenter builds the house, the joiners add detail to the house, and the cabinet maker furnishes the house."

"We should never touch the master's tools."

He mentioned about a 1/3 trades people were unemployed in England in the Colonial times. Apprentices would finish their 7 year service and not be able to secure a job so they indentured themselves and set sail for the colonies to find employment here. They would often need to become apprentices again.
