On Wednesday, April 19th we visited Historic Jamestowne. This is the site of the first known permanent English colony in the Americas. A group of 104 men and boys arrived in 1607 by ship. They settled up the James River away from the coast because they didn't want to be attacked by raiding Spanish ships. They built a triangular fort.
What is CRAZY is that the original Jamestown settlement wasn't uncovered until 1994!!! People thought it was lost! Our tour guide has been an archeologist here for 13 years and was able to give us many details about artifacts found here.
